Frequently asked questions
How long will it take?
First visits take around 45 minutes and include a full assessment and treatment. Subsequent visits last between 35 and 45 minutes and include a progress review and treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your condition and whether your symptoms are acute or chronic in nature. Most patients experience an improvement in 5 treatments or less. If you are no better by this time we would want to refer you to a specialist primary healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Do I have to undress?
As with all manual therapies you may be required to undress to your underwear both for your physical examination and treatment. However, your practitioner will take care not to expose any areas not being treated. You can bring some shorts or loose fitting clothing to change into if you prefer.
Does it hurt?
Treatment is not painful, although some muscles feel tender if they have not been stretched or massaged for a long time. Your practitioner will ask you regularly for feedback during your treatment session to ensure that you are comfortable.
Are there side effects?
You may feel stiff or tender for the first 24 – 48 hours following treatment. However, this should disappear and bring an overall improvement in your condition.
Can I come for just a massage?
Of course. Massage is an effective way to reduce muscle tightness and can provide relief for a number of chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis and arthritis. It’s also a wonderful way to relax and stimulates the release of a number of ‘feel good’ hormones like serotonin and endorphins which reduce blood pressure and strengthen immunity.
